A little Escape: Cliffs, Coastlines and The North Atlantic!
John and I, when we get a bit of time away from No88, love getting out and exploring and we love to go to Eshaness! We've been there many times now, but honestly, you could never get bored of it. This time, we decided to make a proper little break of it and stay overnight at Braewick.
Arriving at Eshaness and spotting the lighthouse never gets old, and then, when you see those black cliffs and the dramatic coastline opening up in front of you, you still get that same feeling of WOW! like you had from your first ever visit.
The scenery is just incredible.
The cliffs are rugged and dramatic, the sea seems to go on forever and the whole place feels so wild and peaceful at the same time. We love walking around there, taking our time and, inevitably, taking far too many photos.
We've seen Eshaness in all sorts of weather over the years, and that's part of what makes it so special. On a calm day, it's beautiful and peaceful, with the sea stretching out in front of you. On a windy day, the waves crashing against the cliffs remind you just how powerful the sea can be.Either way, we never tire of the views.
A little escape from No88
It's always lovely to get away, especially when you've been working hard. Running No88 means we're always thinking about the next service, the next job, what needs doing and everything else that comes with having a restaurant. So when we get a couple of days off together, we really try to make the most of them.There's no rushing around at Eshaness.We can walk, stop, look at the view, have a chat and just enjoy being together.It's amazing how quickly you can switch off when you're somewhere like this. And although we've visited so many times, we still find ourselves saying, “WOW! Look at that” when the waves come crashing in.
Staying at Braewick
This time we decided stay overnight at Braewick , which made the trip feel even more like a proper little getaway.The setting is beautiful, and waking up surrounded by the coastline, is always really special. Its amazing to sit and have your morning coffee whilist looking out towards the Drongs. They're such an incredible part of the landscape, standing out in the water like they've been put there especially for the view.
We both said that we could sit there for ages just watching the sea.
It's exactly what we love about coming here. We don't necessarily need to do anything. It's about slowing down and enjoying where we are.
Why we keep coming back
I think that's probably why Eshaness has become one of those places we return to time and time again. It's familiar to us now, but it never feels the same.The weather changes. The sea changes. The light changes, and every visit gives us something different.
Sometimes it's dramatic and wild, sometimes it's calm and peaceful, but it's always incredibly beautiful.
So, another day off, another trip to one of our favourite places, and another reminder of just how lucky we are to have somewhere as beautiful as Eshaness on our doorstep.
We'll no doubt be back again.
