Discover One of Our Favourite 3-Minute Walks from No88

Another question we get asked a lot at No88 is, "What's worth seeing nearby?" We recommend that you take the three-minute walk up to Fort Charlotte.

It's so close to the restaurant that it's become part of our morning routine. Before we get busy for the day, we wander up to the fort with a coffee and take a few minutes to enjoy the view. Honestly, it never gets old.

From the top, you can look right across to Bressa and out over the harbour. Every morning is different. Sometimes the sea is like glass, other times the wind nearly blows you over and reminds you that you're definitely in Shetland! There are ferries coming and going, fishing boats heading out, and if you're lucky, you might even spot some incredible wildlife.

They don't appear every day (we wish they did), but Shetland is one of the best places in the UK to see them, and every now and then they pass through Lerwick harbour . Even when there aren't any around, there's always something to watch – seals popping up, seabirds diving for fish, busy little Otters hunting for food, or just the changing light over the water.

Fort Charlotte itself is well worth a visit too. It's been watching over Lerwick for hundreds of years and has some fascinating history, but you don't need to be a history buff to enjoy it. Sometimes it's enough just to stand there, take in the fresh sea air and admire one of the best views in town.

If you're in Lerwick, we'd definitely recommend adding it to your day. It's only a couple of minutes from No88, it's free to visit, and it's a lovely place to pause for a while.
