Our journey to No88 - Crossing the water every day.

For many people, the journey to work means sitting in traffic or catching a train. For us, it's something a little more special.
Each working day begins with a short crossing aboard the MV Leirna, the lifeline ferry connecting the island of Bressay with Lerwick. The journey only takes seven minutes, but it's one of the most scenic commutes you could ask for, offering ever-changing views across Bressay Sound.
No two journeys are ever the same after all- This is Shetland, with its dramatic skies, fresh sea air and the unmistakable energy of the Sea. Whatever the weather, there's something calming about starting and ending the day on the water.
During the summer months yachts and Cruise ships from all over the world can be seen from the ferry,it's an amazing sight and it always brings a sense of excitement. Where have they sailed from and where are they going!
For us the ferry is much more than a means of transport. It's where neighbours catch up, visitors start their adventure, Park runners get ready for their Saturday morning run and island life unfolds in its own special way. It's a reminder that living and working here is different—in the very best sense.
Living on Bressay gives us the chance to enjoy peaceful island life while still being just minutes from the heart of Lerwick. It's a balance that's hard to beat. We're truly grateful every single day to the dedicated team on the ferry who make our daily journey so special.
If you're visiting Shetland, we'd encourage you to take the ferry yourself. Even though the crossing is brief, it's an experience that captures the spirit of island life perfectly. After all, some of the best journeys don't have to be the longest.
